The event is designed to address the changes from high school to college that Ohio State University, Youth Transition Network (YTN) and Fuller Seminary uncovered in their research which cause students to encounter significant challenges in the transition.
Session One: Change, Challenges, and Stress – Petra Washington
How do I Handle the Changes, Challenges, and Stress of College Life? Petra Washington will bring the realities of the first days and weeks on campus home and help set a course for success in the midst of freedom.
Session Two: Realities of Research – Brian Raison
A powerful look into the factors that lead to success and failure in the transition to college. Brian Raison of Ohio State University brings practical suggestions on how to succeed in the midst of the transition.
Session Three: The Battle for Your Mind – Dr. Steven Meyer
What do I believe and why do I believe it? An insightful look into the three views encountered in college life that can challenge your faith.
Session Four: Professors, Syllabi, and Free Time - Brian Raison and David Weber
Taming the academic tiger. College life presents many choices; and demands upon your time. Balancing freedom and responsibility is clear when one has their own goals in mind. This session will examine the benefits of parking mental traffic, establishing priorities and setting goals along the road to academic success.
Session Five: Money Matters….a lot! – Steven Zachery
The top concern of students who attended Succeed 2009! Steven Zachary is a national authority on consumer debt and an expert at helping people get a handle on their finances. This session will bring powerful stories and practical examples that will help graduates move forward with confidence.
Session Six: Life On Campus (audience interactive) – Chris Renzelman
Real stories from a live panel of college students. Audience text questions will be responded to in a rapid format that will give attending students personal answers to their questions.
Session Seven: Great Expectations - Jeff Schadt
Busting through expectations and breaking from trends. The founder of YTN will bring his research with 1,500 teens to help parents and students understand what often holds young people back from a real relationship with each other and God.
Session Eight: Answering Your Questions (audience interactive) – All Speakers
Clarifying Questions and Answers. Through out the day a team of YTN staff will review all the questions asked via text and twitter to bring the very best forward to address the challenges, changes, and responsibilities of freedom and leaving home.
Session Nine: Take the reigns of your Faith – Nick Hall
Leaving home brings with it the opportunity to take the reigns of your faith or to drift away. Nick Hall a recent College graduate challenges and motivates us all to take the bull by the horns and recognize the benefits of living for God on our own.
